KUNMING, Mar. 25 (Xinhua)  Huaneng Lancang River Hydropower Company said Friday that it has got state approval for construction of its Huaneng Nuozhadu hydropower station with an installed capacity of 5.85 million kilowatts (5.85 gigawatts) on the Lancang River in southwest China.

Located in Pu'er in Yunnan province, the Huaneng Nuozhadu hydropower station with nine 650,000-kw generating units will be the largest hydropower station in Lancang River Basin and the project requires a total investment of 45 billion yuan.

The hydropower station is also a key project in China's  plan to divert electricity from the west to the east. It is estimated to help China save 9.56 million tonnes of standard coal equivalent and reduce carbon dioxide emission by 18.77 million tones annually upon full operation.
